Artist’s Statement & Concept GAY in Gold Foil: The word "GAY" is painted boldly in gold metallic tones—a deliberate reclamation of a word once used to shame, transformed into a luminous symbol of pride, visibility, and sacred value.
Incomplete "POWER": The word "POWER" is intentionally left unfinished to reflect where the community stands today: immense progress won, yet the collective work toward complete equality, safety, and representation remains ongoing.
Raw & Reclaimed Wood: Rather than concealing the broken natural fracture of the wood panel, the broken edge was intentionally preserved as part of the canvas. It honors queer history—the struggles that tested us, and the enduring strength forged through them.
